Aspartame, also known as Canderel or APM, is a non-carbohydrate artificial sweetener. Aspartame was successfully synthesized and patented in 1965, and the patent expired in 1992. It is a white crystalline powder at room temperature. Because asparta has a high sweetness, pure taste, does not cause tooth decay, has low calories, low hygroscopicity and no stickiness, it is mainly added to beverages, vitamin lozenges or chewing gum as a substitute for sugar. Many diabetic patients and people who are on a diet use aspartame as a sugar substitute.
